Steve and Clara Mattox are the caretakers and founders of WFAR, and are assisted by family and friends who share our love of birds and other waifs who need a loving home. WFAR is a 501c3 nonprofit Parrot and Domestic Bird Rescue.
After our first adoption back in 2005, we saw an overwhelming need for this type of rescue. As our "flock" grew, we made plans to provide a full-flight environment in a rural setting. That became a reality in 2017 with Wynterwood Farm, and finally as a 501(c)(3) in 2022. WFAR currently has one of the largest private free-flight aviaries in the Gulf Coast region.
We focus on providing a forever home to parrots of all sizes when their owners have passed, become overwhelmed, or have been abandoned. We provide the birds with love, attention, and room to be themselves. In addition to parrots, we rescue other exotics such as koi fish and bees!
Note: We are not currently licensed to assist with avian wildlife rescues.
