Life can bring unexpected changes, and sometimes, no matter how much love we have to give, we find ourselves facing heartbreaking decisions.

We understand that a parrot may have many homes and caregivers throughout their life. Each transition tells a story—of love, of loss, of hope.

Our purpose is to be a safe haven for parrots who have been displaced, neglected, or mistreated. Through gentle, personalized care, we help them heal and feel at home again.

Surrender Details

A Permanent Decision

While we know many times this is a difficult decision, if you choose to surrender your animal, you'll be asked to complete a surrender contract. Your signature on this contract represents a permanent decision on your part. This legally binding contract gives full ownership of the animal to Wynterwood Farm Avian Rescue and allows us to provide veterinary care if and when needed.

Health Policy

In order to keep our feathered residents healthy and disease-free, we request a recent veterinary wellness report accompany birds coming to our sanctuary.

The Process

We take birds in on a space-available basis in each of our aviaries, which we maintain for large, medium, small, and physically challenged birds. Owners will be required to contact us and submit a surrender application for review. If we determine your bird is a good fit and we have space available, we will contract you to make arrangements for their delivery to our sanctuary. The surrender application, which is a fillable PDF, may be downloaded from the link below. Once completed, please email it to wynterwoodrescue@gmail.com for review.

If approved, we accept surrenders by appointment on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Other Exotics

We take in certain other exotics, including Koi on a case-by-case basis. For those types of surrenders, please contact us directly by phone.
